Book Week Parade

On Friday the 19th the school dressed up into a character from a book. Each class walked around the hall showing off their cool creations to the school and also the judges which were Mrs Hills, Mrs Harwood and Mrs Sandifar. There were 2 winners from the years 1 & 2's, 3 & 4's and  5 & 6's. I thought the best outfit was Gabe from room 6, he dressed up as a Joker.

Torbay maps

I created a map of Torbay and Waiake and added signs for the school, the kindergarten,
the dairy, the local park and my house. We also added a grid reference with longitude and latitude.
Street Maps
WALT: Find and describe the location of an object using co-ordinates.
WALT: Follow and give instructions involving distances by interpreting simple scales

Open the Map to answer the questions below

Mark  the school on the map
Mark the local park/ sports ground
Mark a local shop (dairy, petrol station OR bakery)
Mark Torbay Kindergarten
Can you find your house?

Mark these with a simple symbol is: a house for your house/ a tree for the local park etc.

Describe the locations of the school, park and Waiake Beach

Add a grid reference

Add the scale 1cm=1km
Add a compass

With a piece of string measure the distance - using the scale to work out the distance. Explain your findings of the below, on a new document.
  1. Torbay School and Torbay Kindergarten -
  2. Torbay School to Waiake Beach -
  3. Mark out a 5km bike circuit on your map. Work out the distance with the string and then mark it on the map with a coloured line.
  4. Write the instructions for this circuit - using N S E W and left/ right.

Corban's art centre

On thursday rooms 2 & 3 went to the corbans art centre in Henderson. At the Corban's art centre we created sculptures using recycled materials. We all chose an item to start with and then we thought about what we could do with it and then we went back to the pile with materials to build a masterpiece. We got to meet Andrew hall who is an artist that creates sculptures from recycled materials.

  • I enjoyed creating the sculpture from recycled materials.
  • The most challenging part was finding parts that could be useful.
