Wearable Art Journey

WEARABLE ARTS JOURNEY

Monday 11th august 2014
Today I'm going to try and achieve the seaweed which is going to be made of plastic bags, then to slim the bags I'm going to put on plastic cylinder tubes. Then it will be ready to paint on another day to give it a seaweed look.

Monday afternoon
Today I managed to create 31 seaweed strips as well as finding an abundance of resources for another day. I found some orange fabric which will be used to wrap around the starfish that will sit on my cheek.
Tomorrow I'm going to glue the seaweed on to my t-shirt with sand all around the torso and hopefully if I can find some shells I'll stick those in between the seaweed. For another day I'll spray the seaweed green and maybe get my tentacle suction cups.

Tuesday morning
This is my design so far:

  • Today I'm going to stick my 31 seaweed strips on to my shirt.
  • I also want to rip my clothing to give it a rustic and wretched look.
  • Probably the most interesting part will be when I stick the sand on to my pants to give it a beach kind of look.

Tuesday afternoon
Yesterday I completed sticking the seaweed on to my shirt with the hot glue gun as well as the octopus suction cups.
I had difficulty with the hot glue gun and trying to stick them on to the shirt without burning myself.
I found out that after hot gluing the seaweed the hot glue stuck through to the other side. I then had to rip the hot glue from the other side so I could wear it.
Working by myself is better because then I know everything that is happening and nothing I don't. So I'm in control of everything.
My design reflects my element because I have strips of seaweed and I'm going to have shells and a starfish on my face.

Wednesday morning
Today I'm going to try and achieve spray painting them green. Then it will look like seaweed. I want to stick my shells throughout my clothes.

The final result

Overall I feel that I achieved what I imagined my design would be. I probably felt even better having the green spray paint to give a bubbly look which looks wicked.
The biggest success was completing all 40 seaweed strips because it took me a whole day but it was still worth it.
The most enjoyable part for me was sticking the sand on the pants because it gives the pants a beachy look with a rough feel.
The hardest part was wearing it because the seaweed made it really heavy.
I have learnt how to create seaweed and listening to other peoples ideas can be really helpful.
