Mighty Rome

Have you ever thought of Rome and the Might power of its borders or how they controlled Europe for more than 500 years! Rome has an exotic, historical past that is an amazing adventure throughout its time.

The Roman Empire was a powerful nation and is the capital of italy. The Borders of the Roman Empire held between 50 -70 million  People in its Borders. The Roman Empire spoke of many languages and had an abundance of Religions including the following of Mars the God of war, Mercury the Messenger of the Gods, Neptune the God of the Sea, Janus The god of the Doorway, Diana the Goddess of Hunting, Vesta the Goddess of Hearth, Minerva the Goddess of Healing and Wisdom and Venus the Goddess of Love.

For Rome to take over more land they would need a powerful army and to get a powerful army they would need many of fighters. At first men who owned property were allowed to fight, but it all changed after needing for fighters to keep of enemy borders. After the rule changed many a people wanted to join for they would get money and food. More than 30,000 men were in a Roman army at a time. The soldiers were well trained and ready for combat.
Soldiers were expected to march around 35 kilometres as well as carrying heavy weapons and thick armour.

In the year 72 around 20,000 attacked the mountain fortress of Masada what is now called Israel. When attacking they used mighty weapons like the Catapults which were used for flinging large boulders into the enemy fortress, Battering rams were used for breaking the enemy's gates, in this case Masada. Rome was divided into groups called legions. Each legion held 5,000 soldiers who were then divided into 10 groups called Cohorts. Chorts were split into 100 men, called centuries. Then centuries were divided into small groups of men who shared a tent and ate together.

The Romans weren’t just all about fighting. In the public holidays Rome would hold events in the colosseum. It could sit up to 50,000 people at a time. The colosseum was used for many occasions such as theatre play, gladiator fighting and most important was the chariot races. The chariot races were very intense. The chariot racers colours were either Blue, Green, white or red. In a race there would be 12 chariots racing at a time. They ran seven laps of the track which was approximately 8 kilometres. Games were so intense that fights would break between crowds.

After 500 mighty years of the Roman empire lost its wealth and power. It had become too large to control and costed too much to run. A German army named The vandals attacked the city of Rome in the year 455. In twelve days the Vandals Destroyed many books and pieces of art. They stripped Rome of everything valuable, even taking the golden roof tiles off important buildings. Vandal is now used for a word that describes someone who purposely destroys something.

So this shows that Rome was a powerful nation that accomplished something so mighty.
